OMI, Inc. is proud to announce and introduce our new Business Development Manager, Emil Johnson, to the company and Huntsville area. We are excited for him to join our team. Emil Johnson is originally from Mobile, AL. He attended the University of South Alabama, where 2014 he graduated with a Bachelor in Geology. In 2015, Emil was honored to present his undergraduate research project at the Southeastern Geological Society of America’s Conference in Chattanooga, TN. The project was titled “A Gravimetric Investigation of the Subsurface Structural Geology of Northern Mobile Bay” and was Emil’s first scientific publication.
Emil began his career in 2015 in Birmingham, AL, as an environmental tech with Alabama Power, A Southern Company. While there, he monitored the water treatment compliance systems statewide and helped build new innovative pilot test systems to exceed testing standards for future compliance standards. In 2016, he moved to Montgomery, AL, and joined the State of Alabama’s Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) as a Hydrogeologist. While there, he worked in the underground storage tank corrective action regulatory division, managing a total budget of $140,000,000 while regulating the cost-effective remediation of over 200 UST, AST, and bulk plant sites primarily in north Alabama.
Emil also received and reviewed new suspected contaminated release reports and made determinations on whether the State of Alabama required further remediation actions. In 2018, Emil also had the opportunity to present research at the National Tanks Conference titled “The Re-Development of Underground Storage Tank Sites” representing the State of Alabama and receiving his second publication credit. Emil also spoke at the yearly state UST conference, where he informed state contractors and the public about the needs and concerns ADEM faced within the UST Corrective Action Division.
Also, while in Montgomery, Emil was hands-on in the community. He spent almost two years working as a community ambassador for a local non-profit organization, where he helped lead initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 and the baby formula shortage in 2022. He also joined a local rotary club, where he immediately began as the group’s outreach coordinator.
As a Rotarian, Emil coordinated his rotary’s monthly volunteer opportunities to give back to local non-profit organizations while helping the surrounding community. In 2023, Emil moved to Huntsville, AL, to begin his position as Business Development Manager for OMI, Inc. His goal is to help OMI, Inc. be a leader in its industry and a visible leader in the community. Also, in 2023, Emil married his beautiful wife, and together, they hope to create roots, start a family, and be a face in the Huntsville community for many years to come.
